News and Notes

There are two corrections I need to make from last week's news and notes. 1. Grand Valley State RB Reggie Spearmon had 32 catches last year not 32 receiving touchdowns. 2. TCU OLB Lamarcus McDonald weighed in at 227 pounds at the combine not 237 pounds.

The NFL Draft Blitz guide is done, you can order it at http://www.nfldraftblitz.com

The Miami Dolphins want to upgrade their kick returnees. A player that would make sense on the 2nd day of the draft is USC's Kareem Kelly. He did not return kicks at USC, but I think he has the talent to do it.

Two injury notes for you. One Texas senior tight end Brock Edwards had surgery on his knee this week. He will miss spring ball, but should be at 100% by next season. Two Fresno State WR Bernard Berrian is at 100%. He missed all of last year with an injury.

Western Michigan DT Jason Babin has been moving up some draft charts. He can play both DT, and DE. He also is a solid pass rusher.

The Bears have targeted mobile QB's in free agency, so look for them to go after a mobile QB in the draft. Kyle Boller would make sense for the Bears in the second round. Also look for Kordell Stewart to be the starting QB in Chicago next year.

This may be Warren Sapp's last season in Tampa Bay. He is a free agent next year, and there are already rumors that Tampa Bay may not give him a big contract. His play has slipped recently, plus he is getting up there in years.

Chaun Thompson of West Texas A&M is rising up the draft charts. He ran a 4.53 40-yard dash at the NFL combine, plus he has solid size at 6-1 240. The main concern is the level of competition he played in college. The Saints and Bills have shown a lot of interest in him.

I think Washington may be doing the worse job in free agency this year. They are bringing in a lot of average players for big money, which will cost them in the long run. One example of this is the offer sheet they gave Packer S Matt Bowen (4 years 6 million).

Chicago WR David Terrell should be at full health by next year. He missed part of last year with injures.

The Eagles, Jets, and Giants have shown an interest in my offensive sleeper of the year for this year's draft Western Illinois TE R.J. Luke.

Two sleepers to keep your eye on are Occidental DT Kevin Watson, and Kent State DT Roy Attieh. Kevin has good numbers at 6 foot 4 and 286 pounds; he also runs the 40-yard dash in 4.7 seconds. Watson has also been named team MVP 4 years in a row. The Saints are very impressed with him, while the Ravens, Raiders, Dolphins, Patriots, and Panthers have also shown an interest in him. Roy has solid size, and the Jets, Rams, Steelers, Texans, Colts like him.

Former Bear running back will workout at the Colorado pro day. I have heard he is an excellent shape, and has a very good chance of getting another shot in the NFL.
