Name Kyle Boller
College California
College Position QB
NFL Position QB
Height 6-4
Weight 225
Positives-The positives with Kyle are athletic ability, touch, and arm strength. Kyle is a pocket passer, which means he will look to pass first, and then if there is nothing open he will run. If he is forced to run though, he has very good athletic ability and above average speed. Boller is very good at delivering the short passes. He shows nice touch and accuracy on these throws. I am not saying he can only throw short passes, though because he does have the arm to go downfield.
Negatives- The negatives with Kyle are mechanics, accuracy on deep passes, and the fact he only had one good year. Boller needs to set his feet when throwing and keep two hands on the ball at all time. I think a good NFL coach can help him in this area. Kyle needs to work on accuracy on his deep passes. He only completed 53% of his passes this year, which shows he needs to improve in this area. My last concern is he only had one good year at California. I think the main reason he only had one good year is due to a poor coaching staff, before this year.
What others are saying- D.J. Boyer
Strength: Experience Velocity
Weakness: Throwing into coverage Timing
Assessment: Kyle Boller is a player who came to California with some hype behind him. Boller struggled for long stretches of his collegiate career but seems to have put it all together this season. Boller has been a starter for nearly his entire career and quarterbacks who go to the next level as four-year starters have very good track records. Boller is a master at keeping his team loose and calm in pressure situations and buying time in the pocket when things break down. Boller doesn't have amazing arm strength but he shows good velocity on his passes and can make all the throws needed for the next level. Boller sometimes looks like Brett Favre and trusts his arm a little too much. Boller isn't short on confidence and forces some bad balls into coverage. Boller is also a quarterback who seems to be very streaky, if his timing is disrupted he can go through dry spells. The encouraging thing about Boller is he just seems to be scratching the surface regarding his true talent. If there is a darkhorse at the quarterback spot in this draft then Boller could be the guy. If Boller continues to improve I think he could start at the NFL level in the future.
Overall- Kyle is your classic NFL pocket passer. I think he will be a NFL starter for some team, in a few years.
