Name Doug Gabriel
College Central Florida
College Position WR
NFL Position WR
Height 6-2
Weight 205
Positives-The positives with Doug are size, speed, and athletic ability. At 6 foot 2 he has solid size for a receiver. He also seems to have a good vertical jump which allows him to go up and get the ball. Gabriel also has the speed to stretch defense. His speed also makes him a threat as a return man. One more positive for this player is his athletic ability. He can adjust his body to the poorly thrown ball, and make nice moves in the open field.
Negatives- The negatives with him are level of competition, and the fact that he is still relatively raw. The MAC is not a football power house, plus Central Florida was an independent until this year. The fact he has not played against very many good teams, means he has not shown what he can do vs. top cover man. One positive for him in this area though is he did have a solid Senior Bowl week. Doug is still a very raw route runner, and needs more reps in this area.
What others are saying- Matthew Gambill collected by draftbook.comc
1-18-03 Doug Gabriel's week started poorly, as he struggled locating the ball and complained a lot during Monday's practice. From that point on, a light went off in his head and he really played well, impressing scouts with his athleticism, quickness, agility, and hands. He showed that he can be an effective route runner and gained separation on the DB's. He also made some really nice catches in traffic showing concentration and reliable hands.
Overall- Doug is a very good receiver, who needs work on his route running. He would be best served by going to a team and being a backup for a year or two.
