Background-Gage was born on 1/25/81 to Al, and Ernestine Gage. Justin played QB at Jefferson City High. He then went on to Missouri. He played QB his freshman year, but then converted to WR as a sophomore. In 2001 Justin was named All-Big 12. Justin leads the team in receptions this year by 36 receptions. He also leads the team in quarterback rating with a 480.40 ranking.
Positives- Gage shows good agility, which allows him to make the difficult reception. He also shows the strength to get off the line. Justin is very good in a jump ball situation due to his great size, and even if a defender can get as high as he can Gage is able to block the defender from the ball. One other thing I like about this player is he has never been injured.
Negatives-The main concern with Gage is a lack of speed. He is not a big play threat, and also does not get off the line very quickly. Justin also tends to lose his concentration, which allow him to drop some easy balls. I think Gage also needs to work on catching the ball with his hands, and not with his body. He also should work on his blocking.
What Others Are Saying
The NFL Draft View
Projected Pick: Could go as high as the first or early second.
Analysis: He may be my favorite receiver prospect. He plays hard, and always seems to make the tough play. He has outstanding size and speed. He's a shooting guard in a receiver's mold. First round status is not out of the question for him.
Final Judgment-Gage is a player I overrated especially his speed, and receving skills coming into the season. That being said I do like his size, and the fact that he can make a difficult catch. You also have to like the stats that this player has been able to put up. I see Justin as a poseion receiver in the NFL. He should be a mid-round pick.
