Player profile of Colorado FB Brandon Drumm
Brandon is by far the best blocking fullback in the draft. The fact that FB's don't go high in the draft may cause Drumm to go on the 2nd day of the draft. I will evaluate Drumm in these areas run blocking, pass blocking, receiving skills, running skills, durability, measurables and personal.
Run Blocker- This is his best area. He explodes into the defender, and stays on his man until the running back gets past him. He also seems to always pick up the right guy to block. One stat that shows how good of a blocker is he allowed 2 RB's to gain over 900 yards in Chris Brown (946) and Bobby Purify (916).
Pass Blocker- Brandon has said he needs to improve in this are. I think he is very solid here though. I think he will be able to pick up the blitzing LB or DB.
Receiving Skills- He only had 14 catches last year, for an average of 7.3 yards. He will not be a big receiving threat in the NFL, but could catch around 15 or 20 balls a year.
Running Skills- He did not have big numbers as a runner. He carried the ball 7 times for 19 yards, which average out to 2.7 yards.
Durability- He has not any big injures in college. This should not be a problem in the NFL.
Measurables- He is 6 foot 2. He weighs 231 pounds. His bench press is 400 pounds and his forty time is 4.56.
Personal- Drumm played high school football in Alaska. He was so good that Sports Illustrated called him the 17th best athlete ever from the state. In the spring of 2001 he was named Colorado's most improved offensive player of the year. He has not had any off the field problems.
Overview- Brandon is your classic blocking FB. He is not a big running or receiving threat. He is a similar player to Sam Gash. I think he would fit well in a power offense.
